From H A

My sister had a  baby. He is 6 months of age, we do not know what is the correct type of food that it is recommended to give him. Will doctorinternet give us advise.

Paediatric specialist of doctorinternet answer to your query is as follows:

" Baby waining starts at 6 months of age. In addition to his milk, you should give some orange juice and smashed vegetables well kooked. Also some mashed soup. There are many baby food available in the market at this age. Babies after 9 months must start to take regular meals 3 or 4 times a day. Meals must include carbohydrates like potatoes, smashed grains, bread, pasta and vitamins in the form of vegetables, fruits and fresh juices. One meal must contain some type of proteins like fish or meat, eggs and dairy products. Again, all these must be taken in addition to milk." All the best and enjoy good health. Doctorinternet. Take care

From Mr.A A

My problem is not very serious although it often puts me in some embarrasing situuations. I smoke shisha but not very heavily, once every two days. My problem is that I have a mouth smell, not very much, and it can not be noticed except from a close distance. I did not visit my doctor before. Seeking Doctorinternet advise.

Doctorinternet specialist in Dentistry gave the following remarks:

a-Causes can be due to

1. Infection in the gum . 80% of people suffer from this

2. Infection in the tonsils

3. Type of the food you eat might cause smell like garlic and onion

4. Absese in the Lung may cause smell. This is usually acccompanied by cough and pain in the chest.

b- You better go to a dentist to examine your mouth. Also visit an ENT specialist to check the tonsils

c- Clean your mouth regularly

d- Take some mint tablets from the chemist, it helps reduce the smell immediatly.

All the best and enjoy good health.

From Mr.K

I suffer from a Duane R. Syndrome. My specialist advised me that nothing could be done about it.I have this syndrome since birth in my right eye only. I could not move the eye outwoard to the right direction. Only the left eye move, while the right eye stops in the center. However I can move this eye to the extreme left to see even my nose. The problem is that I can not concentrate with this eye and depend fully on my left eye , therefore this eye is getting more and more lazy, and I started to be bothered with it as I get older and older. My current vision ability is 6/6 for the left eye, and 6/24 for the sick lazy right eye.

I feel that this defected eye has recently started to affect my left eye and I began to lose focus. I also consulted another doctor who also told me that only little improvement could be achieved by operation. Outward movement of the right eye is almost impossible. I suffer from time to time some headache in the right side only, is this due to this problem?? Is their anything that could be done to treat this case or at least get it significantly improved??.

Doctorinternet specialist, Consultant Ophthalmologist answer to your query is as follows:

  • I agree with the opinion given to him by several of my colleagues, that his condition, Duane's Retraction Syndrome, is not treatable. This is a well known congenital condition and at present, surgery is not usually recommended, hence the recommendations he received from all the ophthalmologists he has met so far.

  • Regarding his other symptoms i.e. loss of focusing in his other eye and the headaches, these are unlikely to be related to his congenital eye condition. This would need to be assessed. The loss of focus could merely be a refractive problem.

  • Should he wish to have more explanation or assessment of his new symptoms, I will happy to see him in London. With best wishes.

From A B

I am a female, 19 years of age and I suffer from bleeding after intercorse twice a week.?

Doctorinternet specialist, Consultant Gynecologist answer to your query is as follows:

Post coital bleeding at age 19 is normally simple and caused by non-malignant problems such as -Cervical erosion, red cervix(covered with thin red skin) - Cervical polyp. But you should be examined by a Gynecologist using colposcope (Magnifying telescope) and he /she should take PAP smear to exclude pre-cancer which also could cause post coital bleeding. Should the smear be normal, then you may need simple treatment like freezing for neck of womb or removal of polyp(an out patient simple procedure).

From Mr. A.A

Are there any long range side efffects in using antihistamine for more than 15 years, especially I am 40 years of age. I had an overall health check, with positive results. Is there any viable remedy for allergy except keeping away from the causes (e.g. dust and cats as in my case)? lastly, I feel that I am loosing my smell sense because of the antihistamine.

My specialist advised me to stop the Flixonase as it contains Cortisone derivatives, which might be the cause of me losing smell sense. Is there any way I can retain my ability to smell?

Doctorinternet Allergy consultant answer was as follows:

  • It is advisable to change the antihistamine every now and then. It is known that Antihistamine effects changes after six weeks of continuous usage.

  • Best remedy for Allergy is to keep away from dust and other causes like smoke and other perfumes.

  • If Skin prick test or RAST test to be as a result of domestic dust and cats diagnosed the allergy, it may be of use to try Desensitization course for special cases. It is also advisable to use Beconase + Zatidine tablets twice a day.

  • As for loosing the smell test, I advise to call on ENT specialist.

I have sickle cell disease. My health is improving very fast.a year ago I get Hepititus C due to the blood tranfusion in the past. But i treate it by using Interferon injection 3 million dose 3times/week for one year. acording to the recent liver biobsy done in UK , the virus is Negative and now no treatment and they told me iam very fine. ( I never drunk alcohol in my life). I dont feel any thing bad in my health except sometimes pain due to the sickle cell.

My Question is : Can I use Viagra? because i have some sextual problem.

Thank you for contacting Doctorinternet
Doctorinternet specialist Doctor Abboudi`s answer to your question was as follows:
" I am glad to hear that you are in a very good healthy conditions, alas with painful crises due to sickle cell anaemia.
However from the point of sexual disfunction that you suffer from, I suggest that you should be extremely careful and as you know patients with sickle cell disease develop(priaprism) which means painful sustained errection of the penis and Viagra may exacerbate or precipitate and there is no published evidence .
I suggest you should seek attention by other means to correct your sexual problem, however I am happy to see you and give you the treatment under close observation.
If you require further infrmation I will be happy to answer you".

Miss M
I suffer from monthly menstrual pain. I also suffer from fibroids in the uterus.
Is there any danger on infertility and what is the appropriate treatment for such a case?

Mr K Sharif, Doctorinternet specialist consultant on Gynaecology and Infertility answer to your problem was as follows:
With regard to the pain with the menstrual period, this is common and usually responds well to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. If it is severe or does not respond to these drugs, then it is advisable to see a specialist.
With regard to the fibroids, they can affect fertility, depending on there size and site. Again here the assessment of a specialist is needed.

From Mr. M
Dear Doctorinternet,
I'm very pleased to browse your useful site. I want to ask you about marriage, and what can I do to guarantee a healthy family. What are the precautions or tests I should take before getting married to a relative.
Thank you.
Best regard.
3/1/2000

Dear Mr. M
Welcome to Doctorinternet.
Although marriage within the same family is possible, a number of genetically related diseases or conditions can be avoided if you do some blood tests, especially for RH factor. It is essential to do blood analyses even if you want to marry some one not related to you.
Rhesus (Rh) incompatibility is an incompatibility between the Rhesus blood groups of the mother and the developing baby. Blood groups are determined by the presence or absence of certain protein molecules on the surface of blood cells. Which proteins, and whether they are present or not, depends on genes inherited from the parents.
Rhesus incompatibility only occurs if the mother has Rh-negative blood and the baby has Rh-positive blood (through having inherited Rh-positive genes from the father).
When the baby is born, some of the baby's blood enters the mother's circulation. An Rh-negative mother's body immune system reacts to the baby's Rh-positive blood as it does to foreign material, and produces antibodies to combat it. Since this is almost always a delayed reaction, which occurs after the baby is born, the first baby may not be harmed. However, the mother will continue to produce these antibodies after delivery and, in any subsequent pregnancy, they may pass from the mother's bloodstream into that of the developing baby and, if the baby has Rh-positive blood, will start to destroy its red blood cells.
Rhesus incompatibility produces no symptoms in the mother. In the cases when it occurs, the baby is at risk of developing haemolytic anaemia and neonatal jaundice at birth or, in extreme cases, of being stillborn.
There are treatments available now for RH-negative, The development of a serum for protective vaccination has almost eliminated the dangers of Rhesus incompatibility. The serum is given by injection to the mother soon after every delivery, It destroys any red blood cells from the baby that have entered the mother's circulation before her body has had time to develop antibodies.
After delivery, any baby affected in such a way will have jaundice, and if this is severe, he or she may need an exchange blood transfusion. You can send Doctorinternet blood analyses results of yourself and the bride to be and a specialist can send you a final report.
Keep in good health and a welcomed friend to Doctorinternet.
